UK digital agency Studio Graphene has launched an initiative called Build My App, which which will see the firm’s experts develop a not-for-profit app free of charge in just three days.

Studio Graphene is calling for entrants to propose a non-profit app idea that will help ‘bring about positive social change’. Judging the applications based on their feasibility and potential impact for good, Studio Graphene will then select one app idea, and proceed to build it free of charge to the applicant organisation. The closing date for entries is Thursday 31st May 2018.

Applicants are encouraged to think creatively by considering how existing types of technology can be used in new, fun or inventive ways to promote a function that will have a strong, positive and immediate impact on a social or charitable issue.

The agency invites app idea submissions from the public, solo founders and entrepreneurs, start-ups, charities and charitable organisations, and innovation teams from larger organisations. The winning idea will be announced on Tuesday 5th June 2018, with the app being built for free and launched at Apps World Evolution 2018 – an event that runs from 12th to 14th June 2018 as part of London Tech Week.

“Technology has the ability to positively transform the world on an unprecedented scale, particularly when it comes to addressing social challenges,” said Ritam Gandhi, Founder and Director of Studio Graphene.

“While commercial technology has dramatically altered the way businesses and organisations operate and engage with their audiences, we have yet to see the same innovation in addressing social issues, such as in the charity sector. Build My App seeks to change all this.”

Gandhi added: “We believe that technology companies with the skill-set and capability to deliver digital solutions should support not-for-profit causes as part of their social responsibility. This is why we have launched this competition. We hope to ensure that an idea with the potential to have a really positive social impact can come into being.”
