Yes indeed we are all saying the same thing about the Key Funding News this week which is the publication of the long awaited proposals for apprenticeship funding once the levy is introduced in April 2017. The new funding methodology will kick in from May 2017. The news in brief is included here, along with links to key documents, and next week we will provide a summary document to help you understand the changes.

BIS has opened a survey inviting views from all employers and training providers on the proposals for apprenticeship funding. The closing date for the survey is 5 September and your feedback will help BIS shape the final funding proposals which will be confirmed in October 2016.

BIS has also released a survey on proposals for a new Register of Apprenticeship Training Providers with the same closing date of 5 September. Please go to https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/apprenticeships-proposals-for-funding-from-may-2017

This will give the guidance the funding Bands and indeed the prices they are looking at prior to the levy and after.

Now you will need to be on ROTO then if you wish to deliver Apprentices the News that the Register of Apprentice Training Providers will open in October, this gives some good guidance. If you decide that you want to deliver training as part of apprenticeships there are a number of ways you can do this:

Provide 100% of the training required to just your own staff – we are proposing to class you as an employer-provider.

Provide part of the training required to your own staff and contract an external, approved training provider to deliver the rest – we are proposing to class you as an employer-provider.

Provide training to your own staff and to staff employed by others – we are proposing to class you as a provider.

If you do not wish to provide any training to your apprentices, you do not need to become an employer-provider. You will be able to select a provider to deliver the apprenticeship training on your behalf.

Some 32 people have asked for clarity on the Digital Apprenticeship Service (DAS) this an online portal that will enable employers to have a levy account showing the amount of funding they can spend on apprenticeships. From August 2017, the DAS will also enable levy-paying employers to make virtual payments to providers that are delivering their apprenticeships for the employer.

The service will provide details of education providers in the area of the employer’s premises offering the desired apprenticeship. This will allow employers to approach local providers to negotiate funding and contributions.
