The new Skills Funding Service (SFS) will enable:

Secure access to contract information with a simplified process for providers to access their contract information.

A quicker response times for queries.

A reduced carbon footprint, providers no longer need to print off contracts to sign and return, whilst continuing to ensure an audit trail of contractual documents.

We have developed the new service with provider feedback in mind, following conversations and surveys with more than 300 providers.   The new service has already been used for issuing and receiving signed electronic versions of ESF contracts for the 2014 to 2020 programme and is now being extended for:

Adult Skills Budget 2015 to 2016 contract variations

Adult Education Budget 2016 to 2017 contracts

16-18 apprenticeships/traineeships 2015/16 contract variations and 2016/17 contracts

Advanced Learner (24+) Loans 2015/16 contract variations and 2016/17 contracts

AGE 2015/16 contract variations and 2016/17 contracts

To ensure access to your contracts for these programmes, including being able to make changes and returns, and receive prompt payment for any increases to your 2015/2016 and future 2016/17 contract variations, you will need to ensure your staff register for the contract authoriser role in the Hub role management system by 31 May.

We will soon be contacting colleges’ and other training organisations’ contract authorisers with more information about accessing the new SFS.

On the 21st October 2016 there will be the first Suffolk Festival of Learning which will be held at UCS in Ipswich.  The Festival will be celebrating all that is great in teaching, learning and assessment and developing innovative partnerships between education and business, teachers with teachers, workbased learning with employers and much more.  This is an amazing opportunity to attend the Festival, engage with workshops, key note speakers and generally mingle with likeminded colleagues, or even share your own excellent practice.   Please visit the website for The Festival of Learninghttp://suffolkfestivaloflearning.org,  for more detail and to book tickets.  There are currently discounts for groups and early bird bookings.

The Suffolk Festival of Learning has booked a number of key note speakers already including Dr Robert Loe from the Relational Research Centre at Cambridge, Baroness Sue Campbell, Chair of the Youth Sport Trust and head of English Women’s Football and Ann Mroz, Editor of the Times Educational Supplement.

There will also be workshops, panels and debates around all aspects of teaching, learning and assessment. In addition to the speakers and activities already arranged the organisers are keen to collaborate with colleges and schools in the region and encourage you and your colleagues to share best practice with others at the festival.

They are looking for any contributions that will demonstrate the excellent and innovative practice in your College, including demonstrations, performances or work by students, leaders for workshops or debates or contributors to discussion groups.  This could be an inspirational approach to teaching and learning, research carried out by a member of staff or trainee teacher, experiences gained by staff through their own CPD, collaborative work, secondments or anything else that would be of interest and relevance to other educators.

Please talk to your colleagues and your trainee teachers about this amazing opportunity to contribute to the growth of teaching, learning and assessment, or to attend and join in with the first Festival in the Eastern Region.  Attached is a flyer which could be printed and distributed around your organisation.

If you have something to share and promote then please contact Rob Walden at Real World Education Group Ltd, robwalden@rweducation.org.  Otherwise, if you want to book tickets please visit the website,http://suffolkfestivaloflearning.org.

Ok Colleges this week we have lots of news on this front .  This will bring the total number of mergers on the cards for this year to 29. The three colleges will form the new South East London Colleges Group and will be led by current Bromley and Greenwich principal Sam Parrett, Bromley College said in a statement.  Ms Parrett said the merger would “strengthen vocational education and apprenticeship provision across South East London, securing a sustainable future across the board”.

Bexley College principal Danny Ridgeway will be retiring when the merger goes ahead.

The three colleges are part of the London (East) area review, which had its first steering group meeting on May 10. Also read more at http://feweek.co.uk/2016/05/20/four-more-college-merger-proposals-unveiled/

So Thursday I went to the Pearson’s Event at the Emirate’s Stadium.  So how was it you may ask well for me lots of people had booked but did not turn up, and at a few points I felt there were more Pearson Staff than training Providers.  I was taken by Lesley Davies OBE who as the Senior Vice President BTEC and Apprenticeships Pearson UK, has one of the longest titles in the world. However she appears to be great and asked all the right questions and is also from the world of training so knows her stuff.

Also funny enough Claudia Harris CEO of Careers and Enterprise Company was the second speaker and as you know many people have been asking what they have been doing with all the money the government has given them.  Well she told us and indeed that was great I spoke to her afterwards and she said she would write to me to let you all know what she was doing we shall see if she does?

What did I get out of it well I saw lots of nice people I know and some clients and also some great people from Pearson, what I learnt not much at all except they know they have to change and they will do so with lots of helpful items?

Also the speakers from BT brought up something which I have big concerns about which is the end assessment they said they could not see who could end assessment on their learners except them.  This is due to they would not have the knowledge, skills or understanding of the learning that had been done.

I looked at one of the Trailblazers it takes 4 years and is £18,000.00 value and from my point of view the end assessment would have to be very good to conclude if I had learned what they say the overview consists of.
