Media Trust and Google partner for free charity digital skills programme

Media Trust has announced that it will launch a digital skills training programme for the charity sector with financial and volunteer support from Google.

It said it had developed the programme after its own survey found that more than 70 per cent of charities lack the digital skills they need to reach their target audience.

The charity has secured a grant of $400,000 (approximately £303,000) from Google which it will use to deliver masterclasses around the UK.

Su-Mei Thompson, chief executive of the Media Trust, said: “It is vital that charities are given the support they need to enhance their digital capabilities or risk being left behind.”

Google will provide free skills training, content and resources and its employees will volunteer by mentoring charities.

Local masterclasses will run from September 2018 until June 2019 and are free for charities and community organisations to attend. More information is available on Media Trust’s website.
