£13 Million for Innovative Projects that Address the Global Need for Clean, Affordable and Secure Energy (UK)
Innovate UK, the UK’s innovation agency has announced the launch of the Energy Catalyst competition.
This competition is co-funded by the Department for International Development, the Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy and the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council and will invest up to £13 million in innovation projects that address the global need for clean, affordable and secure energy. The competition aims to help UK businesses to grasp the opportunities on offer through meeting the challenges facing the energy sector and is open to any UK organisation. Universities and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are also encouraged to apply.
The programme is split into three streams which will be run in parallel, these are:
Early Stage – technical feasibility projects of up to one year, these may be led by research organisations
Mid stage – Industrial research projects that can last up to 3 years
Late stage – experimental development projects that can last up to 3 years.
Project costs can vary between £50,000 and £10 million depending on the stage and businesses can attract up to 70% of their project costs. Briefing events will be held in London, Birmingham and Glasgow in April and May and the closing date for registration is midday on the 21st June 2017.
