Funding to Run Free Sporting Activities (London)

The Greater London Authority has launched the summer funding round of the Free Sport programme. The programme allows sports clubs, organisations, youth groups’ schools and community groups to apply for grants of between £400 – £1,500 to run free sporting or physical exercise activities for Londoners, of all ages and abilities, to encourage more people to get active. FreeSport grants are distributed to approximately 150 different organisations across London, twice a year, for projects to run during the summer and the winter. Previous projects supported include:

Poplar Peddlers which offered a 6 week women-only cycling course to teach women and girls to cycle and gain confidence and contribute to a healthier lifestyle.

Ali’s Dojang; which offered 8 weeks of Taekwondo to a range of participants. It aimed to teach discipline, respect and self-worth through training and helped participants to work towards maintaining a high level of fitness.

All FreeSport Summer 2016 Projects must take place between 18 July – 31 October 2015; be free to participants; provide a minimum of 8 hours’ activity and 70% of participants must take part in a minimum of 6 hours’ activity.

The closing date for applications is 12 noon on the 9th May 2016.
